This Is What Hypocrisy Smells like:

From Bloomberg:

U.S. Says Iran Elite Profiting From Currency Plunge Triggered by Sanctions

The Obama administration is accusing the elite of Iran’s regime and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of profiting “on the back of the average Iranian” as the nation’s currency plunges under pressure from international sanctions.

Oligarchs profiting off the demise of their country (Gasp!)

From the New York Times:

Economic Downturn Took a Detour at Capitol Hill

Largely insulated from the country’s economic downturn since 2008, members of Congress — many of them among the “1 percenters” denounced by Occupy Wall Street protesters — have gotten much richer even as most of the country has become much poorer in the last six years, according to an analysis by The New York Times based on data from the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonprofit research group.

Pot meet kettle.

  1. Profiting on the back of the average citizen… Our Country would not know anything about that…

    Happy New Years Mark.

  2. I have been away/distracted for a while. Glad to see you are still writing for us. Happy New Year!

  3. Happy New Year! to both WC and Gomp (sorry about the delay, Gomp).

I hear ya about distracted. After we finished with our holiday functions, I hoped to get to a few projects that have been eating at me, a couple of which spiralled into Three Stooges episodes. Here’s a fun example: Went to replace a sink, but the shutoff valve in the basement was shot, so I had to replace that first. When I removed the drop ceiling and cut the cold water pipe to replace the valve, the drop ceiling (which some idiot hung from the water pipe) starts arcing! I mean fireworks! Found the nerve to cut the arcing suspension wire…I got like 12 VAC between the pipe and the ceiling frame!! &%*!!!
Long story short, had to call an electrician who found the problem, which was with the service line on the pole…..
    (and that’s just one story)
Seems like I’ve touched every tool I own in the last three weeks, and I’m really, really bad at putting tools back, so it looks like someone detonated a cluster-tool bomb in the garage.

Things are finally starting to settle down, now.

    Good times, good times
